Sam Gaty, Executive Director
Sam Gaty was born in Ashland, Oregon and grew up outside of Salem. He’s worked in film and commercial production in Portland since 2008. In 2010 he was a co-founder of Field Test Independent Film Corps, a production company focused on cinematic documentaries about modern science. Sam has also been an instructor with NW Documentary since 2001 when he started teaching in the Documentary Explorers Camps and joined the board in 2016. He stepped up as Executive Director in 2017. He has a life long passion for storytelling and the geography of the Pacific North West.
Melissa Schatz-Miller, Community & Operations Manager
Melissa was born in Corvallis, Oregon. She spent her childhood wandering the OSU Research Forest and reading in trees. Her professional background covers everything from teaching middle school English to providing technical support and website management. She is a writer of fiction and sketch comedy, a watcher of documentaries about odd people, and a singer of silly folk songs. Melissa loves to hear other peoples’ stories, so stop by and tell her one sometime.

Jackie Weissman, Director
Jackie is an award-winning documentarian living in Portland, Oregon. She is a founding member and past President of Women in Film, Portland (2012-2014), and Director of Oregon Doc Camp (2013), a documentary retreat for seasoned filmmakers embarking on its 5th year. Her most recent film, Rock N Roll Mamas (2013), has screened worldwide.
Jen Tate, Communications Director
For the last 25 years, Jen has worked her way through the world of media. From student films to corporate commercials, from Sesame Street to Silicon Valley, Jen has written, produced, & even performed a bit along the way. Her latest adventure has her delving into documentary film where she hopes to teach the world how to expand their definition of karaoke.
Beth Federici, Program Manager
Beth is an award-winning documentary filmmaker and television producer In Portland, Oregon. Her most recent work includes the feature documentary James Beard: America’s First Foodie which chronicles the life of the original titan of taste, James Beard. Beth is also a dedicated media educator, teaching media literacy theory and media production skills to students all over the country.
