We’re excited to introduce No Stupid Questions, a workshop focused on the heart of many documentaries: the interview. Through a combination of lecture, critique, and hands-on learning, students will gain an understanding of what what it takes to make an interview a successful one. Students will be exposed to advanced work and engage in critical discussions about what makes interviews effective, and how they can be used for powerful storytelling. The course will provide students with a foundation in identifying interviewees, researching and preparing questions for the interview, sensitive listening, and follow-up questions. We’ll also cover techniques for recording and transcribing interviews.
The workshop is taught by Killeen Hanson, an instructor for Emmy award-winning Documentary Explorers Camp and Recording Resilience. Killeen holds an MFA in Applied Craft & Design from PNCA and OCAC.
Class meets four times: Thursdays from 3/7 to 3/28 from 6 to 8 p.m.
