At NW Documentary, award-winning professionals provide the tools, instruction, and constructive encouragement to discover, research, write, and record important stories. We share what we love, so that others can gain the confidence, skills, and inspiration to tell their own stories and the stories they care about.
We emphasize a learning-by-doing approach, where students, interns and volunteers are actively engaged in telling stories–encouraging creativity, problem solving, and collaboration.
At the end of each term, we premiere completed works at our popular Homegrown DocFest. Films created through our workshops have continued to travel far and wide, winning prestigious awards and screening at festivals around the world.
We host three terms of workshops every year. The general schedule is: February-April (Spring term), June-August (Summer term), October-December (Fall term). Dates for each term are announced at the end of the previous term.
