The NW Documentary Film Series was a documentary series created in partnership with the historic Hollywood Theatre. Throughout 2012 we brought new documentaries to Portland audiences, complete with panel discussions, Q+A sessions and workshops with visiting filmmakers. A focus was placed on engaging storytelling and masterful filmmaking.

The Portland Premiere of EXOTIC WORLD & THE BURLESQUE REVIVAL. Filmmakers Courtney Hermann were present for a Q+A and hosted a workshop at NW Documentary.
The Portland premiere of OFF LABEL, the new documentary by Michael Palmieri and Donal Mosher. Mike and Donal also hosted a filmmaking workshop at NW Documentary.
Legendary documentary filmmakers D.A. Pennebaker and Chris Hegedus joined us for two nights of screenings and Q+A’s plus a filmmaking workshop at NW Documentary.
Blues musician Rita Chiarelli performed after a screening of MUSIC FROM THE BIG HOUSE and hosted a workshop at NW Documentary.
Academy Award winning director Barbara Kopple joined us in person for a meet and greet reception and a double feature of A FORCE OF NATURE and HARLAN COUNTY USA with a live on stage interview (which also included Ellen Ratner, subject of A FORCE OF NATURE.)
We hosted 3 screenings of HOT COFFEE with director Susan Saladoff in attendance who also hosted a workshop at NW Documentary.
A special showcase of the Academy Award nominated short documentaries, including the Oscar winner SAVING FACE.
We hosted a free screening of HOW TO DIE IN OREGON with director Peter Richardson and Editor Greg Snider in attendance. Peter and Greg hosted a filmmaking workshop at NW Documentary.
The series kicked off on December 2nd with a double-feature of DRAGONSLAYER and EVERYDAY SUNSHINE: THE STORY OF FISHBONE with directors of both films in attendance. Lev Anderson from EVERYDAY SUNSHINE hosted a filmmaking workshop at NW Documentary.
